The great ordeal finally ended about 5 months ago and now i'm glad to say we're finally here in canada! Anyway since it's spring break, sara and i had a night out in town, watching a hockey game and supper at cactus club cafe. We ordered an appetiser, a main and a desert, just like a single 3-course meal, but shared between the 2 of us.The appetiser, ravioli+prawn trio was delicious. The pine nuts and light buttery sauce surrounding the raviolis complimented the soft butternut squash in it. On top of that, the prawns were juicy, fresh and not overcooked. 4/5
The main, the short rib sandwich, with carmelized onions, beef jus, and emmental cheese on sourdough was not bad as well. There was a hearty portion of beef in the sandwich and fries on the side. Thankfully, sara ordered half yam and half normal fries, which impressed upon me the existence of such wonderfully cooked fries. The yam fries were truly tasteful, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside coupled with the butter-chive dip, was such comfort food. It was simply amazing. However, i thought the pulled beef lacked a bit of flavour, but i guess the carmelized onions and cheese in the sandwich complimented it well. 4/5
Lastly, our desert, chocolate peanut butter crunch bar. Don't let the name fool you, it packed a punch. It was rich, creamy, nutty, served with tahitian vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and crunchy chocolate pearls. This desert really surpassed my expectations. The chocolate peanut butter crunch bar was so sinful, the layers of crunch, chocolate, peanutbutter truly lived up to its name. The bar definitely melted in our mouths. This dish certainly OD-ed on sugar, with the smooth vanilla ice cream. However, i'm thinking Vanilla-bean ice cream would have way better. 4/5
Our supper at cactusclub cafe definitely has made me wanting to go back for more.
